Background.(背景)

We cordially invite all students at your school to participate in the Australian National Chemistry Quiz, which is to be held on from 26th June to 24th July  2013.    

我們誠邀香港學生參加澳洲化學測試(Australian National Chemistry Quiz, ANCQ) 。本年的比賽日期為2013年6月26日至2012年7 月24日。

Organized by Royal Australian Chemical Institute,   Australian National Chemistry Quiz has been conducted  in every state and territory in Australia, and 15 countries/regions, including Hong Kong.  This international chemistry quiz has its long history for more than 20 years.  In 2011 cohort, there were 117,812 participants.

        這項比賽由澳洲皇家化學學院(Royal Australian Chemical Institute)舉辦，超過20年歴史，是一項國際性大型化學比賽。於每年七月份於澳洲及其他十五個國家/地區舉行，去年有超過十一萬七千來自十五個國家和地區的參賽者在居住地參加比賽。

       Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education (Chemistry) has decided to organize ANCQ for more students to take part in this popular chemistry competition.  In 2011 and 2012, we got excellent results (28 and 31 students got full marks in 2011 and 2012 respectively.)(65 and 61 were ranked in the best range of 0.5% amongst 120,000 participants in 2011 and 2012 respectively).

        香港數理學會(化學科)將在2012年度6月下旬至7月下旬，在本港協辦澳洲化學測試，讓更多香港學生能參與是項國際性比賽。在2010及2011年香港學生表現相當優良。(在2011年分別有共31位同學獲得滿分，65位同學位列世界成績最佳之0.5%之內。在2012年則有31位同學獲得滿分及61位同學位列世界成績最佳之0.5%之內)。

       To promote the competition and greater participation, all participating students can select "level of paper" and "language" in the quiz.  An analysis of result and performance will be issued after competition.  The theme of the Quiz is “Science for Everyone”, covering daily life-related questions and challenging questions.      務求令不同學校的學生能有更廣泛的參與，所有參賽學生可根據所就讀年級和教學語言(中文/英文)選擇賽卷作答，並於賽後獲發成績單。測試範圍以「科學為民」“Science for Everyone”為主，同時涵蓋具挑戰性及普及性題目。 [試題樣本]

Aims(目的)

Every school has bright students! ANCQ(H.K.) is a competition  for both EMI and CMI schools. In the past few years, CMI schools got remarkable achievement.  The theme of the Quiz is “Science for Everyone” which is also our aim of Science Education.

 It is noted that there are junior form students and NSS students with high calibre .  This was one of the reasons for introducing a Junior Year 7 and 8 Quiz for the first time in 1989.

 我們相信每間學校均有優異的同學，澳洲國家化學測試(香港區)不是一個只為英文中學而設的比賽，為此我們已特設中文譯卷。在過去三年，中文中學亦獲得優良的成績。測試範圍以「科學為民」“Science for Everyone”為主。例子：在2009年，一屯門區中文中學派出20位同學比賽，共獲得7個 High Distinction, 3個 Distinction 及 3個 Credit。

一些初中或新高中學生在化學/科學方面極具潛質，我們因此特設了不同年級的試卷，讓他們發揮所長。這亦是ANCQ在1989年設立Grade 7-8試卷的目的。

Students may recognize and alert their respective position in school level and territory level.

比賽能夠讓同學知道自己在校內及全港的水平和排名，知己知彼。

The host of ANCQ promises that students' report and the analysis will be sent before the end of October. The analysis can be used as a valuable feedback for teaching and learning.  

比賽後，澳洲大會負責分析學生的成績(強項/弱項)及全級同學的強弱之處。讓老師和學生在學與教上有所回饋。澳洲方面承諾會在十月底前寄回分析結果。

For NSS students, the award and certificate from ANCQ can be regarded as 'award in international competition/academic awards', which can be marked in “Student Learning Portfolio ” .

新高中學制(NSS)的同學，若在此比賽獲得証書，可以作為「學生學習概覽」的其中一個(國際/學術領域)的成果。

Administrative Work (行政工作)

 There is flexibility to vary the date of the Quiz to better suit the particular school calendar. The administrative work of ANCQ is relatively light and flexible. Teachers can arrange quiz during the period from the end of June to the end of July.  ANCQ can be regarded as post-exam/subject activities.

    輕巧的行政工作。老師可以在六月下旬至七月下旬彈性安排測試。老師/教學助理只需要付出1-1.5小時的監考時間。此活動可作為試後活動/學科活動。

About the quiz

It is hoped that such a Quiz will interest students in the further study of chemistry and will indicate to students the important role chemistry has to play in our society. 

      Questions will be based on the fundamental aspects of chemistry as well as questions involving its application in modern society.  The questions will be graded in terms of difficulty and it is expected that most students will be able to answer many of the questions.  The Quiz will be held at two Junior levels Years 7 and 8(Form 2-3), and Years 9 and 10(Form 4) and at two Senior levels, Years 11(Form 5) and year 12(Form 6).  By participating in the Quiz the students have the opportunity to improve their knowledge of chemistry.
